Picture Project on Michigan Radio

Announcing the Picture Project on Michigan Radio

September, 2009

Pictures on Michigan Public Radio? Not quite, but Michigan Radio is launching the Picture Project, a photography site and blog space featuring photography about Michigan people, places, events and issues. The first installment of the Picture Project will run in October 2009 with photo essays that expand on stories featured in Michigan Radio broadcasts. In the future the Picture Project  will be expanded to include a wide mixture of Michigan-centric content including photographic essays, historical photographs, fine art photography, pictures from various archives and collections, and more - all Michigan related. The model for this endeavor is the The Picture Show blog on the National Public Radio website - http://www.npr.org/blogs/pictureshow/ - but with a Michigan focus.

The Michigan Radio Picture Project is being coordinated by Eric Smith and Doug Aikenhead, who hope to recruit an exciting range of contemporary and historical photography to exhibit online. Do you have a Michigan-based group of images or work in progress that we could consider for the Picture Project? Do you know of an intriguing set of photographs in a personal collection or corporate or institutional archive that would be exciting or enriching for Picture Project  viewers? The success of this venture will depend mightily on the quality of the photographs we feature. All photographers and contributors will be credited and acknowledged.

In early October there will be a link to the Michigan Radio Picture Project on the home page of the Michigan Radio web site - www.michiganradio.org. Once the Picture Project is up there will be a link on the blog to pitch a story or idea. This will be the preferred method for contacting the Picture Project.

In the mean time you may contact Doug Aikenhead or Eric Smith with questions, ideas and suggestions (please no pictures at this time; we will be setting up submission guide lines soon).
